Thank You QUEENS OF MISS EARTH page for featuring me on your site!

QUEENS OF MISS EARTH PAGE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS.

I am Renee Tan, Miss Malaysia Earth 2014. Well, the idea of beauty pageants, once you hear of it, you become pessimistic, because of the rumors surrounding it. But what actually triggered my interest in this particular pageant was the organization behind it. Also, it emphasizes on intelligence as well as environmental protection programs which I find it very intriguing.
  • 1.      You were designated/crowned as candidate to Miss Earth, is there a national competition to select a representative to the pageant?

Answer: Before being selected as Malaysia’s representative to Miss Earth, I have been competing in my country’s national competition. It was nerve-racking, thrilling, enriching and sometimes a bit stressful but definitely an experience I will never forget! I had two weeks of pageant boot camp with 23 other incredibly lovely ladies from diverse backgrounds and at the end, I came out top.  I was hopeful going into the pageant but I didn’t expect to win.

  • 2.      Joining international pageants such as Miss Earth requires a lot of preparations, how do you prepare yourself? What are the necessary things you have to prepare before travelling to Manila, Philippines?

Answer: The pageant is drawing closer and joining international pageants such as Miss Earth involves tons of preparations and training. I have been preparing myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually because it is vital to have a solid foundation in these areas so as to go into the pageant with peace of mind, self-confidence, poise, and clarity. The ideal evening gowns and national costumes are definitely in my top checklist of items before traveling to Manila, Philippines.

  • 3.      Miss Earth gathers around 90 gorgeous women around the world to participate in the international pageant, what are your expectations? Do you expect to win?

Answer: Each and every woman who participate in this Miss Earth pageant are already winners of their own countries and every individual country winners hope to make their country proud. I will surely try my ultimate best to do my country proud by being the best version of myself. For me, winning isn’t everything but making the effort to win and wanting to win is!

  • 4.      Miss Earth is considered as the third largest pageant and is regarded as the most relevant pageant in the world, how you can help make it more popular all over the world.

Answer: Miss Earth pageant is already very popular for its worthy cause of preserving the environment and protecting Mother Earth through this prestigious global beauty event. What I can help to make it even more popular all over the world is to create an innovative, impactful and informative environmental campaign for schools and teachers since students are the future of a country and their actions on such environmental works through social media will effectively and ethically influence others.

  • 5.      Miss Earth has a great advocacy, that is, environmental preservation and protection, what have you done so far in line with the advocacy of the pageant?

Answer: I am grateful and blessed to be given the opportunity to go the Philippines for three days Environment Online programme. During my visit, I have participated in countless tree planting activity as well as mangrove planting. I have also take part in the mangrove planting activity at Kuala Gula, Perak. After being crowned as Miss Malaysia Earth 2014, I strongly want to influence others with my advocacy and this opportunity is definitely a good platform for me to reach out and educate the children about protecting their environment. Young children inspire me because they are so full of life, and children are our greatest treasure. They are our future. We must therefore, teach them well! I have been actively going to schools and teaching the kids on the importance of tree planting as well as getting the children involved in the tree planting activity in their school compound.

  • 6.      As a parting message, what can you advice to all women who desire to join pageants such as Miss Earth?

Answer: Joining a beauty pageant is not about glamour or glitz alone. Under the shine of the media spotlight, it is about giving back to the society through genuine efforts and the desire to help the public as well as the environment.

Mangrove Projects @ Kuala Gula, Perak

I was privileged to be invited to Kuala Gula, Perak on the 7th of September 2014 by Sir Kalaimani Supramaniam, ENO's Coordinator for Asia and Malaysia to witness ENO's mangrove projects which has been actively going on since 2006 and up-to-date, almost NINE Miss Earth around the region have visited and participated in this particular mangrove planting activity at Kuala Gula. It was definitely an eye opener for me since I was able to witness on my own the boat rides, beautiful scenery, mangrove planting in swampy areas as well as collecting cockles in muddy swampy sites! I also managed to slot in my time for a short tour to the kindergarten and was pleased to have visited the Buddhist temple nearby.

Posing on the roots of a mangrove tree! No worries because the roots is incredibly strong!

I enjoyed myself so much being in the muddy swamps. You'll see plenty of tiny crabs crawling here and there. I had a tough time walking from point A to point B because of the slippery wet muddy ground. Did you know, the mud itself is good for your skin?! So, if you have skin problems, you know what to do lar. Haha

I was very busy collecting cockles for dinner. I was indeed very excited and *Jakun*. Got my pants and shirt all covered with dirt & mud. No sweat. No fun!

I am preparing myself for a jumping shot. I couldn't jump high because of the slippery ground and I was trying to hold a nice facial expression. Lol

Overall, I enjoyed myself and definitely look forward to come back for another visit here. If you love nature, fresh air, and fulfilled moments, come over to Kuala Gula to experience it yourself!

Quest for a smaller & V shaped face?

Luckily with the help of Dr Jasmine Ruth from Mediviron UOA Clinic, I was able to achieve the desire slimmer & smaller V shaped face in a week! Most people prefer a slimmer, oval shaped face to enhance the delicate features. Unfortunately, Asians naturally have a wider square looking lower face due to hypertrophy or enlargement of the jaw muscle. Growing up, I have always had a squarish jawline with my right jaw muslce, also known as masseter slighter bigger than the left jaw muscle. So, with my job as a part-time model which requires a lot of picture taking as well as photo shooting assignments, I definitely struggle to get pictures since I have unbalanced jaw muscles. I pretty much have to angle my face 45 degree in almost every picture in order to hide my chunky, bulky and unbalanced masseter. Therefore, I realized I needed urgent help and Mediviron UOA Clinic was the best place to go as their clinic offer experienced & professional doctors, friendly staff, excellent service and most importantly, you will see immediate results! Mediviron UOA Aesthetic Clinic is an aesthetic clinic which offers a wide range of service including botox, dermal fillers, Fractional CO2 Laser , Medlite C6 Q-Switch Nd:YAG Laser, CO2 Laser, Candela GentleYAG Laser, Cryocell cold electrophoresis, Skin peel and microdermabrasion, LED phototherapy, Ultraformer High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, Anti-pigmentation treatment, Weight and fat treatment as well as Hair loss treatment!

.If you are going for small enhancements and not looking at dramatic change, undergoing aesthetic is an excellent choice. Aesthetic treatments provide for a more natural result. I chose Botox instead of incision procedure since Botox has no downtime! And they are reversible.

I had a fairly short conversation with Dr Jasmine during the consultation session before proceeding to the treatment. And as for my jaw, Dr Jasmine suggested a little botox on both of my jaw muscles. Common myth about Botox it is used to stop wrinkles formation by preventing your muscles to contract, hence preventing new lines forming. BUT another thing Botox can do is to actually reshape a square looking jaw to a more delicate feminine oval jaw. As a result, Botox was injected into my jaw muscles to "relax" the muscles, to make my face appear slimmer and more oval shape!

This is Dr. Jasmine.
Do send my regards to her if you're going to Mediviron UOA Clinic for treatment! ^^

How are the procedure done?

The process will only take about 10 minutes (excluding consultation, and waiting time for the numbing cream to take effect). First there will be some numbing cream applied and leave on for 30 minutes or so.

Then Dr will do the injection to the designated area.

I'm waiting for the treatment to begin!

Dr. Jasmine checking the Masseter muscles. With excessive chewing throughout the years, the masseters at my jawline grew to quite a size (causing the jaws to look square)

Dr explained the procedures to me & cleared all my doubts that I had on my mind.

I look very relax right?! Because I trust Dr Jasmine professionalism!

At this point I was a bit nervous but it was quite painless!
Botox is being injected into the masseters on each side of my face and spread out at multiple points within the muscle and it only takes several injections per side of jaw and is completed in less than 5 minutes (with minimal or no pain and absolutely no downtime at all! I immediately drove myself to work right after the treatment!)

By the way, swelling is minimal and most importantly, no need to undergo the knife!

  1. Tell is about yourself?
I take school seriously because nowadays in this competitive world, there’s nothing more important than proper education. With good knowledge and education, that is when we can help both ourselves and reach out to influence others as much as we possibly can! I have big dreams and goals for the future which I am extremely strong-minded to make it happen, and I don’t expect anyone to do the hard work for me! On the surface I’m just like most Asian women. I’m definitely an introvert but being quiet doesn’t necessarily mean that I am shy or struggles to communicate well. Being quiet means I’m listening, I’m soft spoken, and I’m respecting others who are speaking. I come from what is an increasingly normal background: Only occasionally see my parents and siblings. I live on my own, supports myself and been through quite a lot of bad times. Blogging is my therapist, music is my soul and having a plethora of stories to tell at the end of my life is mission.
  1. Tell me your preparation to Miss Earth 2014?
I have been practicing a lot in terms of my communication skills, etiquette, grooming, styling, catwalk and so forth. I’ve also done several environmental projects to help save our mother earth. I look forward for more environmental projects in the nearest future and for the time being, I would definitely reach out to more children about the importance of protecting our environment, not only for ourselves, community or Malaysia but also for the entire world.
  1. 5 words for yourself
Sugar, Spice, Naughty but Nice!
  1. The winner of Miss Earth Malaysia your favourite?
My mentor and trainer, Josephine Tan (Miss Earth Malaysia 2013)
  1. The winner of Miss Earth your favourite?
Karla Henry from the Philippines because she has both outer and inner beauty.
  1. The Malaysian Fashion Designer your favourite?
Dato’ Jimmy Choo because he is not only very talented but also extremely humble.
  1. Your target audience at Miss Earth 2014?
 Elementary and Secondary School Students
  1. Your message to your fans?
Start being green every day! In everything you do, try to do it in a green way. After all, we only have one planet. If this one becomes totally ruined, our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will not have a home. If we all do our part to save mother earth, it is definitely possible.

ENO Environmental Trip to Philippines

I am grateful and blessed to be given the opportunity to go along with Miss Philippines Earth 2014, Jamie Harrell and Miss Earth Water 2013, Polly Punika to the Philippines for three days Environment Online programme. We were greeted with a warm welcome from school children’s as well as teachers and the entire tree planting activity took place with a lot of enthusiasm, eagerness and fun! The day started off with various schools visits and it was exciting to have the Mayor to plant his tree together with us. During our visit, the children also participated in the mangrove planting at Bayug Island and many trees were planted in various places in Illigan City, for instance, in Tinago Falls, Brgy. Kawit Oriental, Pagayawan Falls, Biak na Bato Falls, along the Highway and many more. Also, during my trip to Kawit Oriental and Bayug Island for mangrove planting, I have learnt that mangrove forest are incredibly important for the ecosystem and planting a mangrove seedling is not difficult at all! The project is aimed at planting more than 100 million trees by 2017 and involving in these actions is a huge number of volunteer students. This experience has definitely allowed me to recognize the value of the natural environment as well as the importance of tree planting for our mother earth.

This entire visit to the Philippines was extremely incredible. I have met so many people from all walks of life and it was a joy to see how incredibly welcoming and humble these people are.  I love the outdoors very much and being able to plant trees and enjoy the breath-taking view at the same time was priceless! Can't wait to be back here in the Philippines at the month of November! =)

Regards,
Renee Tan
